The Earthship Seminar

Earthship Biotecture has been hosting Earthship Seminars at our headquarters in Greece. People have traveled from all over the world to attend these 3 day events. This is a distillation of 40 years research and development into sustainable building methods.
Solar/thermal dynamics: How to heat and cool a building in any climate with no fossil fuels or utility bills. Thermal wrap, cooling tubes, operable skylights and vent boxes.

Rammed Earth Tire Construction: How to build structural walls using discarded automobile tires. Tires rammed with earth form the load bearing walls for the roof as well as providing the thermal mass to stabilize temperature.

Types of Earthship Designs: The evolution of the Earthship over the past few decades. Packaged, Modular, Hybrid, Custom and Global Earthship Designs.

What to expect

 

The weekend begins with dinner and an opening discussion of the concepts involved in the Earthship. The following day includes an Earthship tour, on-site tire pounding, mudding, and can walls and an evening slide show. Sunday is split between additional hands-on work, touring Earthships in progress and addressing individual applications. The systems are demonstrated and explained. Reviewing the Earthship books and videos prior to the seminar will help you get the most out of this weekend.

Next step

Seminar tuition is €99 per person and €180 for two people. To reserve your seminar date, send a deposit of €30 per person, or call us to charge to your credit card. Make reservations early. Other relevant information will be provided after deposits are received.

What to bring

For Saturday's hands-on session bring clothes that you don't mind destroying, sturdy closed-toed shoes, sunscreen, drinking water and a sack lunch. You will need a pair of rubber gloves and a pair of leather work gloves.

Earthship Seminar deposits are non-refundable, but you may switch your date at any time up to two weeks before your reserved date.

Private Earthship Seminars for Schools, Colleges, Non-Profits and Businesses Groups of 20 or more receive a 33% discount on seminar tuition and get to name their date. For more information, please contact us.

Comments:

I want to point out a few things that we discovered during the workshop we attended in 2009. We saw several families bringing their children ages 3 and up to the workshop. They were making it a family venture from A - Z. Even the 3 year olds brought rubber gloves and were helping to build can walls with mommy and were apparently having a great time. During the workshop you get to see things that you normally don't with touring an already built ship. Many finally see that it is going to take quite a bit longer to build than they first thought about. Planning for 2 - 3 years or more of temporary shelter becomes a necessity unless you plan on building a small VeeGee (packaged) preplanned kit first. Prior to the workshop, my family wasn't yet sold on the concept and after renting one for a week it was hard to get them to leave to go home.
